New Year's Checkup with Dr. Seuss

Thanks to a 3 year old’s affinity with a rainbow colored book cover, we found ourselves dusting off and reading Oh, the Places You'll Go! here at Eminess headquarters. A fitting book as new year’s resolutions are quickly falling to the wayside. Despite the intense eagerness felt when these commitments were carefully scrolled across the clean piece of paper and promptly hung on the bulletin board on 1/1/17.

As we sit here on 2/20/17, its strange how quickly other papers with “to do’s” hastily scribbled, no matter how mundane, take precedent over dreams of launching a new marketing initiative, sculpted abs, or REALLY connecting with friends instead of glancing at Facebook for updates. Thankfully, we found some great insights that helped put things into perspective from good ‘ol Dr. Suess that we wanted to share.
  • “You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy (or gal) who’ll decide where to go.”
    • Few things are unattainable with motivation, direction and hard work. That said, as we get older, jaded, busy and tired, taking on new or bigger opportunities can feel difficult, or more complicated. BUT, with a clear vision of what is truly important to you, you’ll be able to follow the path best suited for your talents and capabilities. What works for you, may be very different from what works for your friends, coworkers, managers or family. Mindfully listening to yourself with the same weight as those around you is imperative.
  • “You can get all hung up in a prickle-ly perch. And your gang will fly on. You’ll be left in a Lurch.”
    • Feeling optimistic, inspired and energized is easy when you’re on top of your game. Unfortunately, everyone gets thrown off their pedestal at one point or another. You’re much less desirable to be around (maybe even for yourself!) during these times of real or perceived failure. These are the moments when you’re able to spend time with yourself to recalibrate. While many of us try to avoid these moments at all costs, they tend to be the most fruitful, and appreciated in retrospect.
  • “Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.”
    • Not sticking with a new year’s resolution to hit the gym before heading to work seems rather insignificant. But, a failed resolution represents another goal you set for you that you’re pushing aside for someone else’s goals you’re helping to achieve. The further you get from what is important to you by spending time on other priorities, the more you stray from your path into the woods, or onto the same old freeway you’ve been begrudgingly taking everyday.
  • "You have brains in your head. And, feet in your shoes."
    • 2017 is ripe with opportunity! We want to wish you luck in achieving all your goals for yourself, and/or your business this year.
